Unless
you're a true glutton for punishment, we know
you don't really wish you were back
in school. But there are things that you wouldn't
mind reliving a few more times -- the excitement
of buying new school supplies, the ardent spirit
of Homecoming week, and maybe that letterman's
jacket you either earned or coveted.
Fortunately,
when it comes to sturdy, great-looking, stylish
letterman's jackets, you CAN go home again.
This week, read about this great gift idea (for
yourself or someone else!), where to get them,
and how to care for them.
Gimme an "S"... gimme
a double "E"...
See you
soon!

The
Letter of
the Fashion Law
If you earned a letterman's
jacket for some achievement in school, you no
doubt prized it and wore it half to death.
Perhaps it was a letterman's sweater.
Those of us who
didn't earn one probably pretended we didn't
care, but boy, we wished we had that jacket!
One
reason letterman-style jackets have been around
long enough for several generations to wax nostalgic
over them is their durable construction, functional
ruggedness, and overall good looks.
Those are qualities we all want in a wardrobe
item, and it's great to know that anybody can
get a similar suede or wool jacket,
customized to their own tastes, and enjoy the
comfort and memories no matter what his or her
age.
Not
quite your style? Don't
dismiss it out of hand. These jackets
are multi-purpose, as well as durable.
- They
make great gifts for family or special friends,
and can carry a huge array of insignia or
fun designs.
- Give
them to sports fans in your family,
complete with the logos of their favorite
team.
- These
are hardy jackets, and great for outdoor enthusiasts.
When purchased through outdoor outfitters,
they most likely come with customized pockets
for holding essential gear.
- Use
them in your business as premium
give-aways to reward employee performance
or otherwise publicize the company with your
logo tastefully displayed on the jacket.
- Get
one without any insignia at all,
and wear it with today's more casual -- yet
preppie-inspired -- fashions.

Upscale
Casual Comfort
If that sounds like
an oxymoron, think again. A jacket of
this quality is usually made of wool, leather
and/or suede -- and that means they don't come
cheap. You can expect to pay at least $100,
and with customized logos and such, it could
go a good bit higher. However,
like any quality piece of clothing in your wardrobe,
a jacket made of these materials will last for
years.
Most letterman (also
known as "varsity") jackets have a quality
lining (sometimes quilted) and knit wrist-bands
and a small collar. Often these knit areas
carry contrasting stripes in school, team or
company colors. Because
you'll treasure your jacket, you need to treat
it like the friend it is, with professional
care on a regular basis.
We can do an excellent
job with leather, suede or wool, and keep the
jacket you love looking good enough to wear
casually or with more upscale looks.
Where
to hunt for the jacket you crave:
- If
you're seeking a jacket from your alma mater,
check with the university alumni shop.
There should be a link right to it on your
university's website with complete ordering
instructions.
- Want
it in Greek? If you
were a member of a fraternity or sorority,
check with the headquarters for your organization,
or check out GreekGear.com.
They seem to have them all!
- For
sports-logo items, check first
with the team shop online. If you don't like
what you see (or the prices) check some of
the links listed below -- many have sports
logos.
- If
you want to create a jacket that is unique
to your organization, check
out Jacket
Shop, which has a great interface for
playing with colors, designs, and logo placement
for your personally-designed jacket.
- If
you just like the look, but
don't have any particular affiliation you
want to plug, put "varsity jacket" into the
search of your favorite department store's
website and see what comes up.
