I'm probably dating myself when I ask if you remember the big Sears Wish Book that came out every November. It was a magical moment when it bulged out of the mailbox. For the next several weeks, every member of the family turned down corners and used cryptic markings to indicate what was on their personal wish list for the holidays. Today, the Wish Book is as extensive as the internet. It may lack some of the charm of the much-fought-over book version, but you can't beat the detail and information you can get. Want to see it in another color? Click the link! Wonder if they can get it to Toledo in time for Hanukkah? Click the link! Many sites offer your gift recipients the opportunity to set up their own wish list -- and you can go shop from it.

This week, with the kicking off of the holiday gift-buying season, we've rounded up a plethora of websites to get your shopping done without dragging from mall to store to outlet. Enjoy!

See you soon!

'Tis the Season to Chuckle

This is the time of year when you realize
how many people you know...
and how many sizes you don't.

The Gift of Garment Care

When you're shopping for family and friends this season, remember to read those care labels we harp on all the time. And if you purchase something that is best handled by a professional, why not tuck in a gift certificate for cleaning? We want to help! Purchase a $15 gift certificate to accompany a gift, and we'll round it up to an even $20 as our thanks for introducing someone to our quality garment care. (Include the first page of this e-mail with your purchase. Offer expires December 18, 2004. Limit one per customer.)

'Twas the beginning of the holidays
and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring...

except for my mouse!

Holiday shopping season. Some love it, some dread it, some want to hide in a closet until it's over. No matter how you feel about the shopping, this is the time of year to really show your love with special gifts. The days of "shop 'til you drop" are over, however. Now you can get it all done and never leave the house.

The Ground Rules

Like any good game, internet holiday shopping has a few ground rules to make it better. Keep them in mind, and you'll have as much fun as the elves at the North Pole.

Remember it's the worldwide web -- pay attention to the address of the sites you visit. If the site name ends in ".co.uk" for instance, you'll be ordering from England. That's not a bad thing, but you need to be aware of currency exchange rates and shipping costs/delays. It's easy to get so enthralled with the items that you don't see what you're dealing with until it's almost too late.

Stick with sites that have Secure Server technology so that your credit card information will be safe. You can tell a secure site by looking for the small padlock at the lower right of your screen to be locked, and for the site to send you to a page that begins with "https://" -- the "s" stands for Secure.

Shop around and save! The nifty thing about internet shopping is that you can compare prices instantly from a number of retailers if you know what you're wanting to buy. Below are a number of links to comparison sites. (Refer to tip above! Just because the price is low doesn't mean the retailer is reputable.)

Sites to use for comparison shopping:

Botspot                 Bizrate                         My Simon
Shopping               Best Web Buys            Price Scan
Price Grabber        Bottom Dollar               Consumer World
Smart Bargains     Overstock                     FindGift

A Site for Sore... Feet!

Why shop on the internet? With online shopping you can cover a lot of ground without wasting gas or energy. You won't find they've just sold the last one in the size you need to someone who just walked out. And NO community has every store on the list below conveniently located a step or two apart. With the internet, you are in the biggest mall on earth, with no long corridors or crowds. And they'll wrap and ship it right to your recipient, or to you for mailing with other gifts. Ready to shop? Here's a handy list of sites for your shopping needs.
