Time to "Clothe" Out the
Year!
As we
approach the end of December, it's a good time to tidy up some
loose ends before heading into the New Year.
We pull out the boxes and put the decorations
away. We make resolutions that rarely survive January. We take
a deep breath and let the old year roll off us and look
forward with renewed hope to the next one.
In the lull
between the holidays and the resumption of normal life, give a
thought to the contents of your closet, as well.
Always,
always, always.
Before
you store those fancy gowns and the tuxedo or other holiday
formal wear, have them cleaned. It doesn't
matter if it looks clean. Much of
what you consumed (or were in close proximity to) during the
holidays contains sugar, or breaks down into sugars as it
ages. This means that a stain that may be invisible today will
show up as a brown stain with time, as thesugar oxidizes, much
like a piece of oxidized metal will have rust spots on it. If
you spilled, it might have appeared to "wipe right off" but
whatever it is got into the fibers. It's also attractive to
moths and other harmful critters who'd love to consume bits of
your finery with their tasty meal. Clean before you store.
Always.
Out with
the Old
The end
of the year is also a good time to look through your wardrobe
and locate those items you haven't worn in a
year. Weed them out and give them to charity.
Or have a garage sale. Or get started as an eBay Power Seller.
Just don't let them languish in your closet another
day.
Those items you are holding on to
hoping you'll lose weight are also prime candidates. After
all, if you make your new weight goals do you really want to
go back to wearing old clothes? Of course not! That's half the
fun -- and the reward -- of losing weight: Going shopping!
So get rid of whatever doesn't
fit, and make room for the fun new fashions that are just
around the corner in the New
Year. |
