Be honest -- if you're married, don't you have a few items that you were given as wedding gifts that have never quite made it out of the closet? Those well-intended doilies from Aunt Brunhilda; the shot glasses with weird pictures on them.

We've rounded up a list of more interesting and useful gifts for the brides and grooms that are surely sending you invitations this time of year. Read on and rediscover the fun of gift giving!

See you soon,

Invite Us to the Wedding!

Go ahead, ask us to the wedding -- we're friendly! If the bride and groom will be settling in the area, why not give the much-appreciated gift of drycleaning? When the newlyweds come home from the honeymoon and settle into everyday life, they'll appreciate your thoughtfulness. We have gift certificates available for your gift-giving needs. Just ask!  Any Time.

Wedding Gifts Outside of the Box

This time of year, any trip to the mailbox may bring another wedding announcement. With each one, you strain to think of an interesting, useful and memorable gift for the couple. If you're tired of having silver platters engraved or looking at toasters, try out a few of these innovative ideas.

(See photos above from left to right)

        • Wedding Portrait Platter -- a new twist on the old idea. You design the platter online, selecting characteristics for each member of the bridal party (up to 18 on a 19" platter) and personalize it with the names. Select hair color, style, gown colors, tux colors, and more. Even toss in the couple's dog or cat! This is one platter they'll never forget. Website: Little Miss Arty Pants.
        • Chocolate Covered Wedding Strawberries -- whimsically decorated strawberries look like little bride and groom in gown and tux. Outfits are chocolate, and you get a dozen in the box. Great for a shower or rehearsal dinner treat. Website: Delightful Deliveries.
        • Plants by the Month -- There are many "of the month" gifts out there. This one brightens up the newlyweds' home each month with a blooming plant in a decorative pot. They'll know you are thinking of them every few weeks when a new pot arrives. Website: Red Envelope.
        • "Just Married" honeymoon flip flops/sandals for him and for her -- great for a beach vacation. The soles of the flip flops leave an impression saying Just Married. An inexpensive gift to tickle their funny bones and remind them of you. Toss in beach towels and sunscreen to round out the gift. Website: Babies, Brides and More.
        • The Ultimate Name Change Packet -- As much as she loves being a bride and taking his name, she dreads the paperwork involved. An innovative gift is this packet of information and forms to get her maiden name changed to her married name in a snap. It's the next best thing to doing it for her! Website: Wedding Stand.

(See photos top to bottom at left.)

  • Wedding Time Capsule -- What a treasure to re-open on a special anniversary many years down the road! This kit helps the couple to assemble a meaningful collection of items that they can then put into a container and set aside until the special day arrives. Website: Great Arrivals.
  • His and Hers Survival Kits -- The day of the wedding will be chaos, no matter how good the planning. Get the jump on Murphy's Law by providing all the couple will need. Her kit includes items like hair spray, static guard, bobby pins, super glue, breath mints, feminine products, hem tape, toothpaste and more. His includes a manicure set, deodorant, lint remover, shoe wipes, razor, wine opener and more. Website: Abernook. (Groom's Wedding Day Kit and Wedding Day Survival Kit.)
  • A gift to Grow with Them -- Give a tree, to show your faith in their marriage, and to beautify their yard in the coming years. Many kinds of trees available, with complete planting instructions included. Website: Eternitree.
  • Smores Maker -- Why give a boring kitchen appliance when you can give the gift of fun? Remind them of their childhood with a Smores Maker that includes a small cooker, long-handled forks for roasting marshmallows, and dishes to hold them, the chocolate and graham crackers (instructions included, too.) This is one appliance they won't return or pass on! Website: WishingFish.

Other ideas include the ever-popular cash, but you can make that more fun, too, by turning it into a gift certificate or gift card to a popular retailer they're sure to frequent as they set up housekeeping. Don't overlook certificates for services they might need or enjoy, like drycleaning (we have certificates!) and car washes, maid service or lawn care.

A gift doesn't have to be expensive to demonstrate that you care, and that you've thought about what reflects the couple's joint personality. If you don't feel inspired by our little list, check out FindGift -- they've got over 4000 suggestions, including all those listed above.
